Los Angeles Lakers governor Jeanie Buss did not need plenty of words to echo the message of guard Luka Doncic.
The summer has been quite eventful for the Los Angeles Lakers, to say the least.
LeBron James left the team and signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. More than half of last season’s roster is gone. Now, the Lakers have a new ownership group after Mark Walter sold the team to Bob Iger and Josh Kushner for a not-so-cheap $12.5 billion, the biggest sale in league history.
Luka Doncic welcomed the development, posting a statement on X on Wednesday.
“Being a Laker means everything to me, and I’m excited to get back on the court and bring a championship to LA,” said Doncic.
“I’ve gotten used to big changes over these last few years, but I know that no matter what, there is no limit to the potential of this iconic franchise. I look forward to meeting Josh and Bob so we can get to work building something special in LA together.”
Jeanie Buss, who will remain as the team’s governor for five years, had a two-word reaction to Doncic’s message.
“Perfectly said,” wrote Buss on X.
Buss’ role was in question after Iger and Kushner, who have a combined net worth of $5.8 billion, acquired the Lakers. The 64-year-old Buss had a deal with Walter that she would maintain her post for five years. Iger and Kushner were happy to honor the agreement, stressing their deep respect for Buss and her family.
Meanwhile, Doncic will likely be busy in the coming days as he will host his teammates in his home country of Slovenia for a team-building trip and mini-training camp.
The Lakers will open their preseason schedule against the Golden State Warriors in October.
