Leicester’s owners are reportedly exploring the sale of the club, a decade on from their Premier League title success.
According to the Financial Times, the Foxes’ King Power owners have brought in investment bankers at Citigroup to help sound out potential buyers.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports news report that an unnamed Middle Eastern firm are interested in buying the club, whose portfolio has been shown to a number of potential investors by their advisors.
Should a change in ownership materialise, this would bring an end to one of football’s most remarkable ownership stories.
End of an era?
King Power’s billionaire founder, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, took over at Leicester in 2010, with the team mid-table in the Championship.
In 2014, they won promotion to the Premier League, before enjoying arguably the game’s greatest fairy tale story two years later.
Under Claudio Ranieri, the Foxes pulled off one of the greatest shocks in sporting history as they lifted the league title.
The club enjoyed continued success in the years that followed, reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2017.
But tragedy struck in 2018 when Srivaddhanaprabha died in a helicopter crash outside the team’s stadium, with his son Aiyawatt – known as Top – subsequently taking control of the club.
While Leicester tasted FA Cup glory in 2021, things have taken a turn for the worse at the King Power Stadium since then.
The Foxes suffered relegation from the Premier League in 2023, before bouncing back the following season under Enzo Maresca.
Their return didn’t last long though, and they were relegated again in 2025, before disaster struck in the recently-concluded 2025/26 campaign.

A decade on from their 5000/1 Premier League title success, the East Midlands outfit finished second-bottom in the Championship, condemning them to League One.
Financial woes
Their relegation came amid a backdrop of ongoing financial issues behind the scenes.
Leicester were deducted six points in February after being found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial rules for the 2023/24 season.
They breached the EFL Profit and Sustainability Rules (P&S Rules) by reporting losses of £201.9million in the three-year period between 2022 and 2024.
Accounts released this year showed the club lost £71.1million during the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
In 2025, Leicester’s owners wiped £124m of shareholder loans to the club, which converted the debt to equity.
Unsurprisingly, the Foxes’ continued financial woes off the pitch and struggles on it has led to chairman Srivaddhanaprabha facing huge criticism from fans, after years of questionable decisions.

The current ownership has relocated the club into a multi-million-pound training ground in Seagrave and had explored expanding the current stadium capacity to 40,000.
However, plans for the latter have been put on hold following relegation, with the ground set to remain in its 32,000-seater form.
King Power’s core business has been hit by a drop in visitors to Thailand in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, especially from China.
Airports of Thailand said in October it had agreed to renegotiate some of the company’s retail concession contracts.
