Miami football added another blue-chip prospect to its 2027 recruiting class on Friday as five-star cornerback A’mir Sears announced his commitment to Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes after recently reclassifying from the 2028 recruiting cycle.
Sears, who previously ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2028 class, moved into the 2027 cycle earlier this week and immediately became one of the nation’s highest-rated recruits. ESPN lists the 6-foot-1, 165-pound defensive back as the No. 25 overall prospect and Florida’s No. 5 recruit in the 2027 class, while 247Sports Composite ranks him No. 11 nationally. Rivals rates him as the nation’s No. 2 cornerback and No. 10 overall prospect.
The former West Broward standout chose Miami over finalists LSU, Michigan and Texas A&M after also drawing interest from programs including Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Auburn, Florida and Syracuse. The Hurricanes originally offered Sears in July 2024, and he remained a priority target throughout his recruitment.
Sears will play his junior season at Christopher Columbus High School after helping West Broward win the first state championship in program history. During his sophomore campaign, he proved to be one of the nation’s premier two-way players by recording 61 tackles, 11 pass breakups, three interceptions and a forced fumble on defense while producing 49 receptions for 942 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns on offense. As a freshman, he accumulated 57 tackles, four interceptions, 25 catches, 501 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Although he is expected to begin his college career at cornerback, Sears also played safety, slot receiver, outside receiver and special teams in high school. He becomes the highest-ranked defender in Miami’s 2027 class, surpassing five-star edge rusher Jaiden Bryant, who flipped from LSU earlier this year. He also joins elite recruits including quarterback Israel Abrams, wide receiver Nick Lennear, cornerback Donte Wright and Bryant.
The Hurricanes now have five five-star commitments according to 247Sports, while Rivals ranks the class No. 3 nationally. ESPN had Miami’s class eighth entering Friday, with Sears becoming one of 14 ESPN SC Next 300 commitments and one of four in-state pledges for Cristobal’s 2027 recruiting class.
