Liverpool should be open to re-signing Trent Alexander-Arnold.
That’s the strong belief of talkSPORT’s Angelina Kelly, who called on supporters to embrace the possibility of the right-back returning to Anfield.
The relationship between Alexander-Arnold and Reds fans became strained after he opted against signing a new contract with his boyhood club and joined Real Madrid last summer, with some going as far as to boo their former hero.
But the 27-year-old’s move to Spain has proved far from successful so far, after he started just 14 LaLiga games last season and failed to score in any competition for the first time since his maiden senior campaign of 2016/17.
And Kelly believes Liverpool should at least think about bringing Alexander-Arnold back to Merseyside amid question marks over their own right-back position.
Joining Nick Bright on talkSPORT’s Transfer Insiders, she said: “I know what it’s like for a player to, in your opinion, betray the club – especially one of your own, especially being a Liverpudlian. I get it.
“When Real Madrid come calling, it is hard to say no – we have to be honest with that – and he’s made the move and it hasn’t really worked out.
“And you look at Liverpool and you think do they need a new right-back?
“I mean, [Jeremie] Frimpong didn’t look great last season – I think he’s probably better playing further forward – [Conor] Bradley injured…
“I think maybe they should cut their losses and just explore the Trent situation.
“I’m not saying you’ve got to sign him immediately – let’s just explore this. Because Real Madrid have signed another right-back in Denzel Dumfries – that is not good news for Trent [who has been warned to expect to lose his place].
“So, why can’t everyone just take some ownership…take a bit of accountability and we can all come back together and be happy?

“You know, Marcus Rashford and Manchester United, they’re having not exactly the same but a similar situation of having to come back.
“I think that there is a way back, and surely there’s one Liverpool fan listening that would have him back – I can’t be on my own here.
“I just think that…you may as well try it because…he was so good at Liverpool…
“Back at Liverpool where a few games, a few goals maybe, a few assists or something – he does something. If he ends up helping Liverpool, like, win the Premier League or get to a Champions League final – if he does something really, really good for Liverpool, I know the fans are loyal, but surely that’s his way of saying sorry and making up for it [his departure]?
“If he can make up for it, why not?”
Reminded by Bright that she’d said fans should accept Alexander-Arnold back in a Liverpool shirt, Kelly affirmed: “They should have him back because on paper, things have gone wrong, yes – but there’s always a road back.
“People sometimes deserve second chances and I think Trent does.
“So, the way things are going – right-back situation, you’ve got a gap there – get him back in.”
Liverpool have completed two first-team signings so far this summer, bringing in France U21 defender Jeremie Jacquet and World Cup-winning Spain forward Victor Munoz from Rennes and Osasuna respectively.
