Bhuvneshwar Kumar‘s impressive performances across domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League have once again sparked discussions about a possible return to the Indian team. The experienced pacer has consistently delivered with the new ball, proving that his skills remain as effective as ever despite being away from international cricket for nearly four years. While many fans believe the veteran deserves another opportunity ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, Bhuvneshwar has now shared his honest thoughts on the growing comeback speculation.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar opens up on India recall chatter
The 36-year-old pacer has made it clear that representing India again is no longer the biggest motivation behind his cricketing journey. Instead, Bhuvneshwar revealed that he has reached a stage where he simply enjoys playing the game without carrying the burden of chasing another national call-up. Having last represented India in late 2022, Bhuvneshwar has continued to feature regularly in domestic tournaments, the UP T20 League and the IPL. He was also part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru squad that lifted the IPL 2026 title, once again showcasing his value with the ball. Speaking on the RCB Podcast, the veteran fast bowler admitted that his perspective towards cricket has changed significantly over the years.
“I’m playing the IPL and domestic cricket because I love the game. When you’re young and playing for India, you say you love the game. But honestly, things like ‘control the controllables’, ‘don’t overthink’, or ‘playing for the passion of the game’ – I can actually feel those things now,” Bhuvneshwar said.
The right-arm seamer further explained that he no longer feels the need to prove himself, having already fulfilled his childhood dream of representing the country.
“I’ve already played for India. That’s not something I have to achieve now. If I get another opportunity, that’s great, but I’ve been there. Everything I’m doing now is because of my love for the game. I know I have to stay disciplined. I play domestic cricket, I play the UP T20 League. I make sure I play enough cricket to stay in touch, while also giving myself enough breaks to recover and stay refreshed,” he added.
A decorated international career that needs no introduction
Bhuvneshwar remains one of India’s most accomplished swing bowlers of the modern era. Across formats, he has represented the country in 21 Tests, 121 One-Day Internationals and 87 T20 Internationals, producing several memorable performances with his ability to move the new ball both ways.
Known for his consistency, accuracy and calm temperament, the Uttar Pradesh pacer played a key role in numerous Indian victories and established himself as one of the finest white-ball seamers during his peak years. Although injuries interrupted different phases of his career, he continued to reinvent himself and remained a dependable option in franchise and domestic cricket. His recent performances have only strengthened the belief that he still possesses the skill and experience to contribute at the highest level.

Fans hopeful of seeing Bhuvi before ODI World Cup 2027
Despite Bhuvneshwar’s relaxed outlook, fans continue to campaign for his return to the national side. His ability to swing the new ball, deliver in pressure situations and mentor younger bowlers has made him a popular candidate for a recall, especially with the ODI World Cup 2027 on the horizon.
Social media has frequently been filled with calls for his inclusion whenever he produces match-winning spells in domestic cricket or the IPL. Many supporters believe India’s pace attack could benefit from his vast experience, particularly in conditions that reward movement with the new ball.
Whether another opportunity arrives or not, Bhuvneshwar appears content with where he stands today. Having already achieved the dream of wearing the India jersey, the veteran is now driven by pure passion for cricket rather than the pursuit of another international cap—a mindset that has allowed him to continue performing at a high level while enjoying every moment on the field.
