Celtic boss Martin O'Neill undergoes procedure in hospital as statement given

Celtic have confirmed manager Martin O’Neill underwent a ‘small procedure in hospital.’

The Scottish champions added that O’Neill is expected to be in hospital for a short time.

“We would envisage Martin being released from hospital in the next day or two and on behalf of Martin, we would like to thank supporters for their kind wishes,” a club statement added.

“We would ask that the privacy of Martin and his family is respected.”

Celtic’s update on O’Neill’s health comes just two days after the Hoops enjoyed a 1-0 win over Dundee to begin the 2026/27 Scottish Premiership campaign.

Benjamin Nygren’s 52nd minute strike proved to be the difference as Celtic commenced their title defence in an ideal manner.

However, O’Neill felt it was a ‘rusty’ display from his troops.

“I didn’t think we played particularly well for most of the game but we did enough to win,” O’Neill said.

“We had some really great chances and could maybe have put the game to bed a lot earlier.

“But overall, I thought we were a bit rusty. It was a typical first game of the season and I’m hoping we’ll get better for next week.”
