The 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy reportedly looked impressive during joint practice with the Titans, but a new issue arose.
Things escalated quickly between the Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers in their joint practice. SF quarterback Brock Purdy still delivered a strong outing per reports despite the constant fights between both franchises. Yet Purdy operated through more than the on-field scuffles.
San Francisco is operating through a depleted offensive line, as noted by insider for The Athletic Vic Tafur Wednesday. Tafur dropped one concerning update too from Nashville.
“It might be time to get concerned about the left guard spot,” Tafur writes. “The 49ers all but handed the job to second-year player Connor Colby at the start of camp, but he has dropped below former Miami Dolphin Robert Jones on the depth chart. And it’s not like Jones, who is on his fourth NFL team and missed all of 2025 with a neck injury, has looked that good.”
So the spot next to blindside protector Trent Williams rises as a new concern. Especially for a team already dealing with other issues.
Running back Christian McCaffrey is stung by early season tightness and is resting as much as possible. San Francisco did sign former Las Vegas Raiders running back Zamir White to fill space in the backfield.
Meanwhile, All-Pro edge rusher Nick Bosa also has the 49ers taking precautions with him. Bosa is still recovering from his torn ACL that wiped away the rest of his 2025 season.
But the offensive trenches surfaces as the new concern for head coach Kyle Shanahan and the Niners to address moving forward. Even Tafur described that Titans star defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons handed the 49ers front five a hard time.
