Blues’ Binnington pulled after allowing two early goals

Jordan Binnington‘s night didn’t last long.

The St. Louis Blues goaltender was pulled after allowing two goals in only 10 minutes against the Anaheim Ducks Monday.

Mason MacTavish scored the first goal, when he fired the puck on net from the half wall while standing on the outside hashmarks on a broken play. Then, after Jordan Kyrou had tied the game, the Ducks retook the lead when Pavel Mintyukov skated in and beat Binnington clean on the blocker side.

Cameras showed head coach Jim Montgomery visibly frustrated after watching a replay of Mintyukov’s goal before summoning Joel Hofer to replace Binnington in the net. Binnington was also visibly frustrated as he left the ice and appeared to yell something back at Montgomery before heading to the dressing room.

The short start was just the latest low point in what has been a trying season for Binnington so far. The 32-year-old entered play with a 6-5-5 record and a .882 save percentage that ranks 43rd in the NHL among qualified goaltenders.
