Browns accuse 49ers’ Jennings of crossing line with in-game comments
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings finds himself in some hot water for his in-game actions for a second straight week.
After punching Carolina Panthers safety Tre’von Moehrig — who earlier delivered Jennings a low blow — during Week 12, a handful of Cleveland Browns defenders spoke out on Jennings after Sunday’s 26-8 49ers win.
“I see why he got punched in the nuts,” Browns defensive lineman Shelby Harris said, per ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi. “He says some things that you should not say to another man ever. But I don’t respect it because you say that, then run behind your O-line. That’s some real soft s—, and I want that known.
“I see exactly why they punched your nuts. I’m surprised nobody punched him in the jaw yet.”
During an injury timeout mid-game, Jennings had to be separated from the Browns’ defence after an exchange of words.
Following Jennings’ run-in with Moehrig, the Panthers insisted that Jennings was “talking crazy,” in what ended as a 20-9 San Francisco victory.
Moehrig was ultimately suspended for Carolina’s Week 13 game against the Los Angeles Rams and fined for his punch. Jennings received a lower fine for his post-game actions.
Jennings scored a touchdown and caught four passes for 39 yards against the Browns, building on his strong season.
Browns star lineman Myles Garrett also commented on his behaviour after the game, though.
“I can’t speak for how he was raised, but if you have nothing good to say, don’t say something to somebody,” he said. “So, he had a lot to say that was demeaning and disparaging towards some of our players. And I was just trying to separate everybody. And I tried to go up and ask for what the problem was, and then he started coming at me and, I mean, some guys just roll like that.”
