Canada’s Jamal Murray named Western Conference Player of the Week

Jamal Murray has received some recognition for his strong performance in the last week.

The Kitchener, Ont., native was named the Western Conference Player of the Week on Monday, following a four-game stretch in which he averaged 29.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists on 59.5 per cent shooting.

The Denver Nuggets and Murray went 3-1 on the week, picking up three victories on the road.

It is the first time in Murray’s nine-year NBA career that he has won the award. He also became the first Nuggets player other than Nikola Jokic to receive the honour since Paul Millsap in 2018.

Murray scored a season-high 52 points on Dec. 3 against the Indiana Pacers, knocking down 19 of his 25 shots from the field and a career-best 10 three-pointers.

Starring alongside Jokic, Murray has helped Denver to a 17-6 record — tied for second in the West.

The big week continues what has been a strong start for Murray. Through 22 games, he is averaging career bests with 25.0 points, 6.8 assists and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 50.6 per cent from the field and 44.7 per cent from three.
