Canucks’ Demko, Hoglander could return next week, coach says

Reinforcements could be on the way for the slumping Vancouver Canucks.

Goalie Thatcher Demko and forward Nils Hoglander could return for next week’s game against the Buffalo Sabres on Dec. 11, Canucks head coach Adam Foote told reporters on Thursday.

Demko hasn’t played since Nov. 11 when he exited a game against the Winnipeg Jets with a lower-body injury.

The goaltender did skate with the team on Thursday at practice, but left early after taking part in the first couple of drills.

In 10 games for the Canucks this season, Demko has a 2.80 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. With Demko out, Kevin Lankinen has handled the majority of the goaltending duties for Vancouver.

Demko also missed much of last season with a knee injury, playing just 23 games and posting a 10-8-3 record with a .889 save percentage and a 2.90 goals-against average.

Meanwhile, Hoglander has still not played a game this season after he had lower-body surgery on Sept. 29.

The Canucks’ 40th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft had eight goals and 25 points in 72 games last season.

Vancouver has lost six of its past seven games and sits second-last in the Pacific Division with a 10-14-3 record.
