Collin Morikawa tied the lowest score to par in Pebble Beach history

Collin Morikawa had himself a weekend at Pebble Beach.

It had been a while since he stepped into the winner’s circle (the 2023 Baycurrent Classic was the last instance), but Collin knew he had to make birdie on 18 at Pebble for the chance to do so and delivered heroically. The win marked his 7th on the PGA Tour (in 145 starts). All of them have come before he turns 30 years old to make matters even more impressive.

California has been kind to its own in Morikawa as this was his third overall victory in the state. Collin’s last win in his home state was the 2020 PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park which I can personally verify from just a couple of weeks ago is in as pristine shape as ever.

Back to Collin though, his 22-under par matched the lowest winning score in this tournament’s history which is some pretty remarkable stuff (Brandt Snedeker in 2015 if you were curious). Given that this was the first Signature Event of the season for the PGA Tour it makes sense that it would take an immense effort like that to lift a trophy and that is exactly what we saw from Morikawa.
