Colts WR Michael Pittman eager to reunite with QB Philip Rivers in Indy
The Indianapolis Colts shocked us all this past week when they brought Philip Rivers out of retirement to play quarterback for them. Given that Rivers last played competitively during the 2020 season and that it is mid-December of 2025 the word “shocked” is actually putting it pretty lightly.
As you can imagine there were reactions from all across the spectrum regarding the Rivers news. Many poked fun given that Rivers is now literally a grandfather while others noted that the Colts know that they are close and want to hand the keys to the most important position on their team to someone who knows their offense well. This is like that episode of whatever food cooking competition it was where the girl couldn’t open the jar and ran to her dad in the audience to do it. Comfort is valuable.
One of the players Rivers will be interacting with is someone who has a history with him in Indianapolis in receiver Michael Pittman Jr.. That 2020 season was Pittman’s first in the NFL and he recently joined me to talk about that year what with its newfound relevance among a variety of things.
It is certainly quite the quirk for Pittman and his teammates to adjust to live with Rivers once more, but it is not every year that you are in mid-December and know how close you are to pulling something incredible off. The Colts showed a willingness to push chips to the center of the table by trading for Sauce Gardner before the deadline… they can see their goal and do not want to just punt on the year at hand in the name of a more practical future. That is respectable.
Among the variety of things Michael and I discussed, including me giving him a hard time about Arizona State beating him when he was at USC, was Oral-B. The company was recently named the “Official Toothbrush of the NFL”, and together, they’re giving fans something to be excited about – a campaign that highlights Oral-B’s award-winning iO Series Electric Toothbrush, along with a toothy makeover for Blue who is the Colts’ mascot.
Our thanks to Michael, Oral-B, and Blue for the time!
