The Los Angeles Dodgers landed the big fish in the pond before the trade deadline after acquiring Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers. However, that wasn’t the only move the front office made, as the club pulled off another deal right before the 6 p.m. EST deadline.
Reports indicate that the Dodgers traded for catcher Hunter Feduccia from the Tampa Bay Rays, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports. Feduccia initially made his MLB debut in Los Angeles back in 2024.
“The Dodgers make one last move, grabbing catching depth in Hunter Feduccia from the Tampa Bay Rays,” Nightengale reported.
Feduccia, who is 29 years old, only played seven total games for the Dodgers before being dealt to the Rays in 2025 as part of a three-team deal that included the Cincinnati Reds. He heads back to L.A. with 96 career games played in Tampa Bay, mainly working as a backup option behind the plate.
He heads to the Dodgers with 141 at-bats this season. In those attempts, Feduccia has recorded 33 hits, two home runs, and 12 RBIs, giving him a .234 batting average and .306 OBP. Defensively, he’s totaled five errors so far and owns a .987 fielding percentage.
The three-year veteran may step in as an immediate depth piece, especially with Dalton Rushing recently going on the IL. Additionally, Will Smith is still on the 60-day IL with an inflamed disc. Adding another catcher to the roster appears to be a smart move for the final stretch of the regular season. Smith is estimated to return from injury by late August or early September.
