Giants’ Jaxson Dart in line to start vs. Patriots after clearing concussion protocol
The New York Giants are in line to get their rookie QB back for an inter-conference rivalry game.
Quarterback Jaxson Dart has cleared the concussion protocol and could start Monday against the New England Patriots, the team announced Thursday.
Dart has been out since a Week 10 showdown against the Chicago Bears and has missed games against the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions.
The 22-year-old was shaken up after he was hit by Bears defensive lineman Austin Booker and defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson on a run with 5:05 left in the third, resulting in a fumble.
Though he remained in the game shortly after the play, he was replaced in the fourth quarter by veteran QB Russell Wilson after Dart went to be evaluated for a concussion.
The former Ole Miss QB has impressed in his rookie year, throwing for 1,417 yards with 10 touchdowns and three interceptions. A dynamic two-way QB, Dart has added 317 yards on the ground with seven touchdowns and three fumbles.
When Dart takes the field once again, he’ll be playing under a new head coach after third-year coach Brian Daboll was fired following the loss to the Bears. Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka has since taken the reins.
The Giants are currently 2-10, but were 2-5 in starts with Dart under centre.
