Maple Leafs’ Oliver Ekman-Larsson exits early vs. Penguins with injury
The Toronto Maple Leafs played the majority of the final period against the Pittsburgh Penguins without one of their key defenceman.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson exited Saturday night’s contest in the final frame and did not return. Head coach Craig Berube told reporters after the game confirmed that he suffered an upper-body injury.
Berube added that Ekman-Larsson told Maple Leafs winger William Nylander that he would be OK, and the coach is hopeful it’s not serious.
Ekman-Larsson finished the game with a goal and an assist in 13:56 of ice time.
In 24 games this season, the 34-year-old Swede has three goals and 18 assists while averaging 21:03 on ice.
Ekman-Larsson is in the second year of a four-year, $14 million contract.
