Olympic hockey scores: Hilary Knight stuns Canada with late goal; USA wins gold medal in OT
The United States won gold in women’s hockey at the 2026 Winter Olympics with a dramatic overtime victory against Canada.
Canada held a 1-0 lead with just over two minutes in regulation from Milan Cortina — but Hilary Knight had other plans. The all-time leading goal scorer in Team USA women’s history registered her record-setting 15th goal on a brilliant deflection that leveled the score at 1-1.
This was an extremely bold call from Team USA coach John Wroblewski, who pulled the goalie aggressively with over two minutes left in the game in an effort to force some offense. Typically a decision that wouldn’t be made until the 1:30 mark at the earliest, it banked on the strength of the U.S. forwards to win the faceoff and dominate up front on their forecheck, which paid massive dividends.
Canada’s wall-like defense had prevented any good U.S. chances for much of the game, but the extra attacker spread the puck movement wide and led to Laila Edwards getting a clean shot that Knight could redirect. Just a legendary moment to send the goal medal game into overtime.
The U.S. won in overtime on a goal from Megan Keller. Watch it here:
This is the third gold for USA women’s hockey after also winning in 2008 and 2018.
