Patrick Reed announces departure from LIV Golf and return to PGA Tour

The world of professional golf just felt another boom.

Masters Champion Patrick Reed announced on Wednesday morning that, like Brooks Koepka, he is no longer competing on LIV Golf. Reed noted that he is returning to the PGA Tour as a “past champion member” for the 2027 season (so next year) and that he is eligible to compete in Tour events later this year.

Reed noted within his social post that he will continue to play on the DP World Tour as a result of his Honorary Lifetime Member eligibility, and he specifically noted the tradition of the PGA Tour as why he is excited about returning.

“I’m a traditionalist at heart, and I was born to play on the PGA TOUR, which is where my story began with my wife, Justine.”

Reed also offered a point of thanks to his teammates on the Aces, his LIV Golf team, and named Dustin Johnson specifically in that manner.

This is a seismic move in golf on the heels of the Brooks Koepka one and leaves LIV Golf in a seriously compromised position. You have to wonder if any other players who had the eligibility that Koepka did (Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Cameron Smith) may be reconsidering their positions.

The PGA Tour released a statement on the matter and noted that given Reed’s resignation of his previous Tour membership that he is eligible to return beginning August 25th of this year.
