Report: Closer Emilio Pagan returns to Reds on two-year, $20M deal
The Cincinnati Reds and closer Emilio Pagán are running it back.
Pagán agreed to a two-year, $20-million contract with the Reds on Wednesday, according to The Athletic‘s Ken Rosenthal and C. Trent Rosecrans.
The deal includes an opt-out after 2026 and is pending a physical.
Pagán is coming off one of the strongest seasons of his nine-year career. The 34-year-old right-hander took over the closing duties in Cincinnati in 2025 and produced 32 saves and a 2.88 ERA over 70 appearances.
He struck out 81 batters in 68.2 innings, finishing second in the National League in saves.
Pagán didn’t pitch during Cincinnati’s two-game wild-card defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Reds are the sixth major-league team that Pagán has pitched for. He previously spent time with Seattle, Oakland, Tampa Bay, San Diego and Minnesota.
For his career, Pagán owns a 3.66 ERA, 65 saves and 581 strikeouts in 506.2 innings of work.
After claiming the final playoff spot in the NL this past season, the Reds are looking to reconstruct their bullpen. Alongside Pagán, relief options Scott Barlow, Brent Suter, Nick Martinez and Taylor Rogers also became free agents this off-season.
