Report: Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy expected to start Sunday vs. Washington
The Minnesota Vikings look to be switching from one rookie quarterback to another.
After being put in concussion protocol and missing last week’s matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Kevin O’Connell says J.J. McCarthy is expected to start this Sunday against the Washington Commanders, Kevin Seifert of ESPN reported.
McCarthy first reported symptoms on the team’s travel home from the 23-6 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Stepping in for the former Michigan Wolverine was fellow rookie quarterback Max Brosmer, who went 19-for-30 with 126 yards and four interceptions in the team’s 26-0 loss to Seattle.
O’Connell says that the 22-year-old is symptom-free, and will be cleared to start if he goes through a full practice on Wednesday.
McCarthy missed his rookie season recovering from knee surgery and sat out five more games this season with a high-ankle sprain. The Vikings, who now sit at 4-8, lost four straight games.
