Team Canada are in a dogfight against Czechia in their quarterfinals game against Czechia in men’s hockey at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Canada currently trails 2-1 midway through the second period, and Czechia shows no sign of letting up.

And now Team Canada could be without their leader the rest of the way.

Sidney Crosby skated slowly off the ice, and then made a belabored walk to the locker room, after. taking a hard check early in the second period. Crosby was leveled by Czechia’s Radko Gudas, and was clearly favoring his right leg after taking the hit.

Czechia took the lead on a power-play goal from David Pastrnak, his second goal of the Olympics. Pastrnak’s goal saw Team Canada trail for the first time at the Winter Olympics with NHL players since the 2010 Games.

Beyond the Winter Olympics, if Crosby has suffered a significant injury that could impact his NHL team, the Pittsburgh Penguins. Pittsburgh currently sits second in the Metropolitan Division, eight points behind the Carolina Hurricanes. But the Penguins are also five points out of a playoff spot.

Update: Canada tied the game in the second period, but Crosby remained sidelined as the third period began.
