In 2018, Real Madrid made headlines for signing the then 18-year-old in a deal worth almost £40m, after he made 37 league appearances for Flamengo, scoring only seven goals. However, fast forward to today and it’s clear to see why. Vinícius has made 375 appearances for the Spanish Giants, scoring 128 goals and winning 14 trophies, including two Champions League trophies.
In today’s transfer market, a player of his status and ability would definitely exceed the £100m mark, especially with the recent transfers of Elliot Anderson and Morgan Rogers exceeding nine figures. So for Vinícius Junior, how high could the transfer value go?
According to transfermarkt.com, the 26-year-old holds a market value of £140m, which would make him Arsenal’s most expensive player ahead of Declan Rice. However, with the current nature of the transfer market, it would seem very unlikely that Real Madrid would let him go for that price. That could mean his price tag could be close to £200m.
Looking before the 25/26 season, Arsenal’s expenditure on players massively exceeded their income from outgoings. The Gunners’ expenditure on the 16 players they signed sat at just over £250m, with their income from the 15 players they let go standing at only £11.8m. So where would the money come from to afford him?

However, with his off-field status and commercial value being a massive factor in modern football, it is safe to say teams in Saudi Arabia will be monitoring the situation diligently.

As of the end of the 25/26 season, Arsenal’s left wing department consisted of two players: Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard. The Brazilian has been just as productive this season too, producing 36 goal contributions across 53 games in all competitions. In addition, he had a stellar World Cup campaign, despite Brazil’s somewhat early exit after losing to Norway, scoring four goals in five matches.
At the age of only 26, it would be a perfect signing for the Gunners as he enters his peak in his career and could be the proven winner and missing piece they need to finally win the Champions League.
The problem with Vinícius Junior’s contract is whether he is affordable for Arsenal.
Talks over a new deal for the superstar are definitely expected to ramp up in the coming weeks as Real Madrid look to keep hold of their big names, especially as Jose Mourinho’s next era begins at the club. The scenario of Vinícius leaving in 2027 for nothing would be a financial nightmare, even for one of the biggest and richest clubs in the world.
With that in mind, ensuring he signs a new deal before the end of the transfer deadline is understandably a massive priority for Los Blancos. However, if he were to leave this season, it could be a massive move and definitely one of the biggest in the market for a long time.
For Vinícius, leaving on a free in 2027 could be beneficial as he could demand higher wages, but is that affordable for Arsenal?
According to capology.com, Vinícius Jr’s current weekly wage is in the region of £400,000 a week. That would already make him Arsenal’s highest-earning player ahead of Bukayo Saka after he recently penned a new deal.
However, with the nature of free agents not requiring a transfer fee, Vinícius could demand even higher wages to secure a deal with the Gunners in the 2027/28 season. Although this could still be the better option for Arsenal due to his huge market value, it would definitely break the British transfer record of £125m last summer.
After winning their first Premier League title in 22 years last season, it’s clear to see Arsenal’s intent has not stopped there. With the potential signing of Vinícius Junior, their ambitions are becoming more obvious: to win the Champions League for the first time.
