Wife of Chiefs coach hospitalized after being shot at home as team release statement

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy’s wife was shot on Sunday night.

According to a report from ESPN, 57-year-old Mia Bieniemy was shot inside the couple’s home in Virginia and has been hospitalized.

The Chiefs OC was with the team in St. Joseph, Missouri at the campus of Missouri Western State where they have set up for training camp.

Per ESPN’s report, Leah Pau, a spokesperson for the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, revealed that police had arrived at the home located in Ashburn, Virginia, at 7:32 p.m ET on Sunday.

They confirmed that a person was being treated for “serious injuries,” though at the time, the person’s identity was not disclosed.

In a statement released by the Chiefs, they have said that they are “aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family.”

They did not, however, provide any more details.

Bieniemy rejoined the Chiefs’ coaching staff earlier this year from the Chicago Bears, where he served as the running backs coach.

He was previously the running backs coach in Kansas City from 2013-17, before becoming the team’s offensive coordinator in 2018 – a position he held until his departure for the Washington Commanders in 2023.
