The Orioles today announced that they have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Yennier Cano on a two-year contract extension covering the 2027–28 seasons, with a club option for the 2029 season.
Cano will get $7.5 million guaranteed over 2027-2028, with a $10 million club option for 2029, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. The option can escalate based on games finished. The club did not confirm the financial terms.
“We are thrilled to have Yennier continue as an Oriole,” said Orioles Control Owner David Rubenstein. “Mike Elias and his team’s ability to identify talent inside and outside the organization is positioning us for sustained success.”
Cano, 32, is 11-17 with 16 saves and a 3.78 ERA (103 ER/245.1 IP) on 229 hits (21 HR), 114 total runs, 85 walks (4 IBB), and 235 strikeouts in 268 career outings, including 258 with the Orioles. Since the start of the 2023 season, his 255 relief appearances rank third in MLB. Cano was named an American League All-Star in 2023, joining Félix Bautista to become the first pair of O’s relievers to be selected to an All-Star Game since 2016 when Zack Britton and Brad Brach did so. His 34 holds in 2024 remain an Orioles franchise record while his 90 holds as an Oriole are the second most in team history (since 1954) behind Darren O’Day (109 HLD). Cano was acquired from the Minnesota Twins, along with Cade Povich and two other players, in exchange for right-hander Jorge López and cash considerations on August 2, 2022.
“Yennier has been outstanding for us both on and off the field since his arrival in 2022,” said Orioles President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Elias. “He has blossomed into one of the game’s most reliable and consistent relief pitchers.
