Aston Villa won their first piece of silverware of the 21st century in May, as Unai Emery guided the club to Europa League glory.
Now Villa are targeting another European trophy in the form of the UEFA Super Cup, but the reigning kings of the continent stand in their way.
Paris Saint-Germain have swept all before them over the last couple of campaigns, becoming only the second club to win the Champions League in back-to-back years since the tournament was revamped in 1992.
Luis Enrique’s side beat Arsenal on penalties in last season’s final and will now be looking to replicate Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid by lifting the trophy in three consecutive years.
PSG also claimed the UEFA Super Cup last time out, beating Tottenham Hotspur on penalties. Spurs played well on that occasion and were seconds away from victory before a PSG equaliser made it 2-2 in second-half stoppage time.
Neither team will be at full strength on Wednesday as Emery and Luis Enrique await the return of a few squad members who reached the latter stages of the World Cup.

Silverware is up for grabs as PSG take on Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup.
Villa clear underdogs
The bookies have PSG down as favourites despite the expected absence of the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue.
PSG’s defence and midfield will be close to full strength, though, and their ability to retain the ball and regain it quickly gives them the edge.
After losing tempo-setter Youri Tielemans and attacking star Morgan Rogers, it could take Aston Villa a couple of months to reach top form.
Emery is a master at negotiating knockout ties, but PSG have the quality to come out on top in this one. Another European trophy is on its way to the Parc des Princes.

Goals may not flow
The aforementioned Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue are unlikely to be involved here, and neither is Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins.
The two defences will be comparatively strong and that could contribute to a low-scoring encounter.
On top of that, both teams are still getting up to speed ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. With a week and a half to go until the Premier League and Ligue 1 begin, PSG and Aston Villa are still very much in preparation mode.
This should be an interesting affair regardless, but we should not expect a goal-fest in Austria.

Kvaratskhelia the main man
With Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue absent, and Bradley Barcola on his way out of PSG, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will be the senior man in Luis Enrique’s frontline on Wednesday.
The Georgia international was not involved in the World Cup this summer, so he has more time than most to rest and recuperate ahead of the new season.
Kvaratskhelia was terrific last season and he will be a thorn in the side of Aston Villa’s backline in the UEFA Super Cup.
At the odds available, Kvaratskhelia is the obvious pick in the anytime goalscorer market.
