Damian Lillard continues to work his way back from an Achilles injury, and the Blazers’ post further hypes up his eventual return.
There is only a little over two months left before the start of the 2026-27 NBA regular season, which would mark the official return of Damian Lillard to action after he took the entirety of the previous campaign off as he recovered from a ruptured Achilles. Lillard will be suiting up for a Portland Trail Blazers team that is coming off a playoff appearance; they also strengthened this offseason with the addition of Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies.
While Morant’s presence certainly complicates matters for the Blazers as far as their backcourt rotation is concerned, one thing is for sure: the team will be prioritizing what’s best for their franchise legend in Lillard. Many believe that Lillard will be starting for Portland even after a lengthy layoff.
And it looks like Lillard is certainly working towards that goal, as he is hard at work this offseason in preparation for his much-anticipated NBA comeback.
“always in the gym,” the official Blazers account on X wrote, hyping up Lillard’s eventual return.

Lillard’s work ethic is the stuff of legends, so it should not come as a surprise to anyone that he’s already on the grind for the Blazers. He must be raring to step foot in an NBA court as a player once more, as this is his longest absence from the hardwood in his career.
It is important to note, however, that Lillard is already 36 years of age. History hasn’t been very kind to guards of Lillard’s stature who’ve sustained similar injuries. But perhaps the Blazers star could be one of the few players who could buck that historic trend.
At the end of the day, the mere fact that Blazers fans will get to see a franchise legend suit up for the team once again has to be exhilarating in and of itself.
