The Washington Commanders are signing four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs, in a move that appears to leave wantaway San Francisco 49ers star Brandon Aiyuk in limbo.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz first reported news of a deal between the free agent, who most recently played for the New England Patriots, and Washington.
“The Commanders are signing 4x Pro Bowl WR Stefon Diggs, multiple sources tell me,” Schultz shared Wednesday.
Washington’s interest in the 32-year-old veteran had been reported earlier this summer, and the deal is now done, although the length and financial terms of any contract are not yet known.
With the Commanders turning to Diggs, Aiyuk’s future remains unclear.
The Niners wideout has been banking on a move to Washington, and spent the offseason teasing a link-up with the team on social media.

He also bought a $10million property close to the training facility last month.
The wide receiver position was one of Washington’s biggest needs coming into 2026, as the franchise needed a strong No. 2 option opposite Terry McLaurin.
Jayden Daniels will now have a four-time Pro Bowler, who led the NFL in receptions and receiving yards in 2020, on his offense.
Aiyuk, meanwhile, might not see the field this season if the Commanders have closed the door on any potential move.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport added further context to the Diggs deal soon after the initial news was broken.
“Major news for the Washington Commanders,” he said, appearing on Inside Training Camp Live.
“They have added, midway through training camp, a big time pass catching weapon.
“Sources say Stefan Diggs, the former New England Patriots receiver, former Bill, former Viking — who has done exceptionally well in helping young quarterbacks get to where they need to go — he is now set to sign with the Washington Commanders.
“Going to get a one year deal, north of $10million.”
Rapoport added that while much of the attention was on Aiyuk this summer, the Commanders have been working ‘quietly’ to do a deal with Diggs.
He explained: “While the entire NFL world has focused on Brandon Aiyuk and the Commanders, and him wanting to join and all that came with it, all general manager, Adam Peters, and the rest of the Commanders brass did, was very quietly do a deal with Stefan Diggs.
“He was incredibly productive last year coming off an ACL tear. Didn’t really even have the full training camp.
“This year, is fully healthy, has the full training camp. Now is set to sign with the Commanders and will join them shortly.
