After a 4-2 defeat to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday, the Dodgers have now lost eight of their last nine games. Manager Dave Roberts knows his team isn’t playing up to their capabilities.
Against the Diamondbacks, Roberts wasn’t impressed with how the Dodgers approached both fastballs and changeups in the box. As they move forward, the manager notes Los Angeles must be prepared to make adjustments, via Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
“We’re certainly not playing up to our capability,” Roberts said. “I think this series it was very clear that we weren’t hitting the fastball, and we were exposing ourselves to the changeup with the secondary specifically. We have to make adjustments. I think for me, that’s sort of what I see as a group, we’re just not making adjustments.”
As it stands, the Dodgers still rank fourth in the league with 591 runs scored. Their lineup is filled with superstars and will be expecting to deliver more often than not. But at least over their recent stretch, that lineup has proven they aren’t invincible.
Los Angeles has scored five or more runs in just two of their last nine games. During that stretch, they have been outscored a collective 52-28. The Dodgers need their superstars to take a step forward and play up to their capabilities to become the World Series contenders they intend to be.
Roberts has been able to at least diagnose some of the problems LA is facing at the plate. The manager will now look for his team to implement those changes in their next series against the Kansas City Royals.
