Giants news: Jaxson Dart continues to struggle during first training camp under John Harbaugh

New York Giants QB Jaxson Dart has already made a great impression on new head coach John Harbaugh at training camp. However, on the field, Dart is struggling to find his footing under a new system.

On Tuesday, Dart didn’t receive a flattering assessment while going through the rigors of Day 6 of training camp, per Dan Duggen of The Athletic.

“Another practice where Jaxson Dart didn’t look particularly sharp,” Duggen wrote. “He had a red-zone touchdown pass to tight end Isaiah Likely that went through the hands of slot cornerback Dru Phillips. The scrambling in the final red zone situation was tough. Dart’s legs are a weapon and he did have open space, but defenders’ gripes about quarterback runs when they can’t hit him are valid.”

Dart is on the heels of a not-so-good training camp practice. On Monday, Dart was criticized by Harbaugh for a taunt levied at Greg Newsome while running for a touchdown. Additionally, Dart has taken more snaps in training camp than he has in both his collegiate career and rookie year. Harbaugh has also brought an added level of competitiveness and discipline to how playbooks are orchestrated. A far cry from the more collegiate style Dart has been under.

In January, the Giants hired Harbaugh as the head coach after 18 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. Last year, Dart played in 14 games. He finished with 2,272 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, 487 rushing yards, and 9 rushing touchdowns. Dart also finished with a QB rating of 91.7.

He finished 4th in the voting for the 2025 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
