BOSTON – In the midst of a back-and-forth affair at Fenway Park on Thursday night, the White Sox suffered a blow when Joey Bart was removed from the game after being hit by a 97.7 mph fastball on his left hand in the seventh inning.
Before the White Sox lost 12-11 in 13 innings, the team had announced that Bart suffered a fifth metacarpal fracture in his left hand and will undergo further evaluation. He had also been hit on the foot in the top of the second inning.
“We’ll continue to check it out,” said manager Will Venable. “It’s a fracture. Obviously, it will be an IL, and we’ll figure out what we’re going to do and what the timeline is with him as we continue to evaluate.”
Including his pinch-hit appearance on Wednesday, Bart is 0-for-6 since joining the White Sox, with a walk and four strikeouts. On the year, he’s batting .214 with four home runs and 13 RBIs.
Drew Romo came on to run for Bart and remained in the game behind the dish at catcher.
