Liverpool do not plan on selling Cody Gakpo despite Tottenham’s interest in the Dutchman, talkSPORT understands.
It has previously been reported that Spurs were keen on signing the Reds forward, but that he was unlikely to come cheap.
With his current Anfield contract not expiring until 2030, talkSPORT’s Ben Jacobs suggested that the Reds were likely to demand in the region of £70million for Gakpo.
But if Spurs’ transfer activity is anything to go by, his asking price wouldn’t appear to be an issue.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side have been one of the busiest Premier League teams this summer, breaking their transfer record twice.
Matheus Fernandes was the first to raise the bar when he joined for £85million from West Ham, only to knocked off top spot following Sandro Tonali’s £100m arrival days later.
Tottenham’s summer spending currently stands at £237m, but they don’t appear to be done yet, with De Zerbi teasing more big arrivals.
Spurs transfers
With Spurs yet to strengthen their forward line this summer, they have been heavily linked with a number of options.
Gakpo has been among the leading names here, however it is now understood Liverpool are unwilling to sell him.
The 27-year-old is one of the more experienced attackers in new boss Andoni Iraola’s squad, and is capable of playing across the front line.
His versatility could be particularly important in the first half of the season, with key man Hugo Ekitike not likely to return until the start of 2026 as he continues his recovery from an Achilles injury.
While the Reds are looking to land Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, their only other options on the wing currently are 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha and new-signing Victor Munoz.

Gakpo made 52 appearances for Liverpool last term, scoring nine goals and contributing six assists.
The Netherlands star showcased his versality, amid injuries to Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, playing up top and on the left wing.
Unfortunately, it was a season to forget for the Reds as they failed to defend their Premier League crown, but secured Champions League qualification with a fifth-place finish.
Gakpo moved to Anfield in January 2023 from PSV Eindhoven for a fee reportedly worth £37mi with a potential extra £13m in add-ons.
Since then, he has gone on to make 180 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 50 goals and providing 23 assists, as well as tasting Premier League glory in 2025.
Who could Spurs sign instead?
While Spurs appear to have been dealt a setback in their pursuit of Gakpo, they have been linked with a number of attacking options.

As well as the Dutchman, Manchester City wingers Savinho and Omar Marmoush have also been linked with a move to north London, while Marcus Rashford has also been tipped for a shock switch.
Savinho has appeared most likely to move south, with Spurs said to have rekindled their interest in him, and club chiefs are now working on a deal to sign him worth close to £60m.
Talk of a major attacking signing at Tottenham was recently fuelled when De Zerbi said the club were lining up another transfer ‘bomba’.
While the Italian confirmed this was in relation to a forward, he was later forced to clarify his comments could apply to several players.
