The Mets are reportedly open for business.
But the Mets will reportedly listen on everyone else. That includes Francisco Lindor. However, a deal involving the star shortstop has multiple hurdles. He has a full no-trade clause and is due about $32.4 million per season through 2031. His value also isn’t especially high at the moment as the 32-year-old carried a .216/.298/.373 slash line into Thursday’s game versus the Phillies. According to MLB Network Radio’s Jim Duquette, one team called Lindor “immovable right now.”
The Mets’ most obvious trade candidates are players who can reach free agency after this season. That includes lefty relievers Brooks Raley and A.J. Minter, and starting pitchers Clay Holmes and Freddy Peralta. Holmes, who has a $12 million player option for 2027 and is currently recovering from a fractured right leg, recently told The Athletic that he is “definitely open” to signing a contract extension to stay with New York.
Peralta has had an underwhelming season with the Mets after being acquired via trade from the Brewers during the offseason. He has a 4.66 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP across 20 starts, but considering he is just one year removed from finishing fifth in the National League Cy Young voting, the two-time All-Star could be the Mets’ biggest trade chip. The club entered Thursday’s game with a 40-57 record, second worst in the NL.
Janes mentions relievers Luke Weaver and Huascar Brazobán, catchers Francisco Alvarez and Luis Torrens, and young infielders Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio as other Mets who could draw interest from teams looking to buy at the Deadline.
Everyone in that group has multiple years of club control remaining except for Weaver, who is slated to reach free agency after next season. He may be one of the best relievers available ahead of this year’s Aug. 3 Deadline; he has recorded a 1.85 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP over 37 appearances with the Mets.
