Mohamed Salah is set to sign for Turkish club Trabzonspor on a two-year contract.
The Liverpool legend will join on a free transfer having brought the curtain down on an iconic nine-year spell at Anfield.
And now he’s set for a new challenge in the Turkish Super Lig, with Trabzonspor giving a statement confirming they were in for the 35-year-old.
It read: “Negotiations have begun regarding the transfer of professional footballer Mohamed Salah to our club.”
Salah will arrive in Istanbul on Wednesday before making the journey to Trabzon, located in north east Turkey, on the same day to complete his move.
Trabzonspor add that they will share further developments on Salah’s move in due course.
He joins a Trabzonspor side that came third in the Turkish top flight last season, finishing eight points behind champions Galatasaray.
That was not enough to qualify for the Champions League with Trabzonspor set to compete in a Europa League qualification play-off later this month. Their opponent is yet to be determined.
Liverpool departure
His imminent move comes months after Salah confirmed he was calling time on his Liverpool career in an emotional message to fans in March.
He leaves a Liverpool legend having won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the Champions League as well as boasting two Carabao Cup winners’ medals.

However, the individual accolades he won in Liverpool colours are arguably more impressive with Salah winning three PFA Player of the Year awards. He also won four Golden Boot prizes.
Just before the 2024/25 season, Salah put pen to paper on a two-year contract, however, he left halfway through.
talkSPORT understands Salah agreed to ‘amend’ the last year of his £20m-a-year contract to be allowed to leave for free in a similar settlement to the termination of former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s contract in 2024.
Talks over an exit from Merseyside began before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations in late December.
This came shortly after a public falling out with then-Liverpool boss Arne Slot with Salah accusing the Dutchman of wanting him gone.
‘Why on earth has he gone there?’
The news left former Liverpool forward Dean Saunders shocked, the Welshman suggesting that Salah could play at a higher level.

“Do you know what? I’m stunned. I’m stunned. What has Mo Salah done?” Saunders said on The Sports Bar.
“And this is no disrespect because I went to Galatasaray, Turkey. My son was born there and I had a great time in Turkey. And they’re all really enthusiastic, nice people. And Trabzonspor is a big club in Turkey.
“But why on earth has Mo Salah left Liverpool to go there? I just, I mean, I can’t, without sounding like I’m criticising Trabsonspor, I’m finding it hard to believe. Why didn’t he stay at Liverpool?
“I honestly thought he was going to Saudi Arabia.”
