Newcastle have announced Matthias Jaissle as their new manager.
The 48-year-old has left Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli to replace Eddie Howe at St James’ Park.
Howe left Newcastle after nearly five years and delivered their first domestic trophy in 70 years by winning the Carabao Cup in 2025.
Jaissle won the Austrian Bundesliga twice with RB Salzburg before heading to the Saudi Pro League in 2023.
At Al Ahli, he delivered back-to-back Asian Champions League titles in 2025 and 2026.

Jaissle will have a tough job on his hands lifting the mood at St James’ Park following a number of exits.

Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali have already departed, with Bruno Guimaraes set to join Arsenal in a £75m transfer.
A number of players have already arrived, however, with Braga goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek coming in as first choice goalkeeper on Monday.
Newcastle activated his £25.7m release clause and he became their fifth summer signing.
‘First port of call’
Alan Pardew, a former Newcastle manager, has told Jaissle that getting the senior players on side must be his no.1 priority.
“Jaissle needs to embrace that senior group very, very quickly and gain their respect,” Pardew said on The Final Word last weekend.
“That’s what I always thought whenever I stepped into a football club. You really need to concentrate on your senior players; that’s your first port of call.

“I don’t care what anyone says… you’ve got to get those senior players bang on your side.”
Pardew then revealed he had an awkward start to his time in the job, with senior players seemingly not having him upon his arrival in December 2010.
“When I walked into Newcastle, my very first day into the training ground, Joey Barton knocked on my door and came and sat in my office and said, ‘Look, you’re not wanted. We don’t really think you’re good enough for us… prove to us that you can do the job’,” Pardew continued.
“Welcome to Newcastle!”
Newcastle begin their Premier League campaign at home to Liverpool on Sunday, August 23.
