Norway vs England predictions

England produced one of their greatest ever tournament performances in the round of 16, but there was no time to dwell on that.

The Three Lions became the first visiting team to defeat Mexico at the Estadio Azteca in a World Cup game last time out, winning 3-2 thanks to a Jude Bellingham brace and a Harry Kane penalty.

It was a breathless encounter in Mexico City, and not just because of the much-discussed altitude.

England had Jarrell Quansah sent off early in the second half, but a backs-to-the-wall display saw them hold out after Raul Jimenez had halved the deficit and put Mexico back within a goal of parity.

It was a magnificent effort from Thomas Tuchel’s team, but their attention quickly turned to the quarter-finals.

Norway stand in England’s way. If the Mexico game was among England’s best ever displays, Norway’s 2-1 victory over Brazil is undoubtedly the greatest moment in the history of the national team.

An Erling Haaland brace powered Norway past the five-time world champions, whose goal came deep into second-half stoppage time when the game was over as a contest.

It was a remarkable result – and a fair one too. Brazil missed some huge chances, most notably a failed Bruno Guimaraes penalty and an Endrick one-on-one finish that went well wide. But the open-play xG was pretty even and Norway outpassed Brazil by a significant margin.

England are the favourites to win Saturday’s showdown, but that brings its own pressure and Norway will not mind their status as underdogs.

Norway vs England betting tips

Norway and England go head-to-head for a place in the semi-finals of World Cup 2026.

Can England go again?

The Mexico match will have taken a lot out of England, but a six-day turnaround before the quarter-final should be enough time to recuperate.

Norway’s meeting with Brazil was also gruelling given the 4pm kick-off time in the New Jersey heat, so there is not a huge difference between the teams in terms of preparation.

With Erling Haaland leading the line, Norway are capable of beating anyone. Keeping the Manchester City striker quiet for a full 90 minutes is a near-impossible task when he is in this sort of form.

Overall, though, England have more quality in their ranks than Norway, and that gives them the edge.

Entertainment awaits in Florida

Norway and England have at least one thing in common: both teams are better going forward than they are defensively.

Norway have scored and conceded in every match they have contested at this World Cup, while England’s only clean sheet came against a limited Ghana team.

There have been over 2.5 goals in three of England’s five games in North America, and in each of Norway’s five.

Given those statistics, this bet looks like excellent value at odds not too far off evens.

Haaland, Kane or someone else?

Erling Haaland has scored a preposterous 27 goals in his last 14 internationals for Norway. He has found the back of the net in every Norway game at this World Cup, having done the same in qualifying.

Haaland has seven strikes to his name overall, while Harry Kane is just behind the Manchester City striker on six. That is on the back of a remarkable club campaign in which Kane scored 61 times for Bayern Munich.

However, we recommend a wager on Jude Bellingham to find the back of the net instead of either Haaland or Kane.

That is in part because of the attractive odds on offer, as well as the fact that Bellingham has scored four goals already this summer.
