Former England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has been confirmed to be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this year.
He follows in the footsteps of many ex-football stars to join the show that sees celebrities try their hand in the ballroom.
The official Strictly Instagram account revealed on Thursday: “Time to lace up the dancing shoes. Welcome to Strictly, former England international footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips!”
Wright-Phillips then went on to announce the news on his own social media too, speaking directly to his followers.
“I am very excited to announce, I am joining the class of Strictly Come Dancing 2026,” the ex-Manchester City forward said. “I’m really hoping I can chuck some shapes and make everyone proud.”
He also said to the BBC: “Dancing is in my blood—but mainly at family events! Strictly is definitely outside my comfort zone, but I’m super excited to get started and really looking forward to the challenge!”
The 44-year-old has received some supportive messages from ex-teammates and other footballers following the news.
Man City legend Paul Dickov wrote: “Yes wee man!!! Love this.”
Meanwhile, former Man City and Lionesses star Toni Duggan replied with star-eyed emojis, writing: “Go on our boy!”
The latest series of Strictly Come Dancing is scheduled to get started in September, with Wright-Phillips the 10th celeb announced.
He officially announced his retirement from football in 2019 at the age of 37 and has since gone on to work in punditry.
During his career, he played for Man City, Chelsea, Queens Park Rangers and featured in the USA with the New York Red Bulls and Phoenix Rising, while also picking up 36 England caps.

Following in the footsteps
Wright-Phillips, who is the son of Arsenal and England legend Ian Wright, is the latest footballer to sign up to Strictly.
Many other former Three Lions stars have shown off their dancing feet, including Paul Merson, Tony Adams and David James.
Peter Shilton and John Barnes have also taken part previously.
Those names may not have had the most success, but ex-Lionesses star Karen Carney certainly did.
Carney impressively won the famous Glitterball trophy last year.
Dutch legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink danced in 2025 too, while Alex Scott has also been part of the line-up before.
