This Class 2 handicap is wide open and there’s a suspicion in the betting that it’s down to I’ll Be Back.
English Oak is the top-rated and of course the top-weighted by far so he has a chance but has to defy a fair few pounds over the rest after a couple of poorer performances, though should benefit from going back to 1m.
I’ll Be Back has only been seen twice so far in his career but already up to a 92 rating and there’s expected to be plenty more to come from him.
However, I really like Salam Dubawi, who is a four-year-old trained by Jim Goldie.
Won twice so far and gone close in his last two races in tough handicaps but crucially has a win at this course over 1m1f.
I’ll Be Back needs more going up in trip, did look comfortable winning at Leicester however I think needs a bit more experience before winning a race like this and doesn’t attract at odds-on.
Inspired
Been hitting the bar and going close in his recent races including going second last time out which warranted a rise of 2lb from the handicapper.
Still yet to reach the mark he got to back in the start of 2026 but is certainly going that way after some decent efforts in huge handicap fields this season.
Ought to go well in this small field with a couple of decent yet beatable rivals.
Naval Command
Epictetus was once rated 113 at his peak and stayed around that level in 2023.
He’s only won three times though and has, for a long time, not quite lived up to his potential and is now down to a mark of 77.
His latest run over 1m4f and Lingfield ended finishing close up off 4lb higher but he’s a big risk to side with as he’s yet to win since August 2023, despite going close three times this season (over 7f-1m).
This is a wide open contest where all these horses have not quite performed the way they probably should and Naval Command is one of the most unexposed.
Dangerously so in fact, the Ralph Beckett-trained four-year-old has only been seen four times on the flat turf and looks dangerous way down in the weights since his run at Chester.
