The New York Yankees are preparing for the MLB trade deadline. They are going to buy, but they could consider moving a current MLB player or two. The idea of trading shortstop Anthony Volpe has been mentioned at times, but outfielder Trent Grisham should be a trade candidate as well.
Grisham, 29, is currently in a slump and has endured a difficult season overall. He’s been limited to 88 games played due to injury, and his performance while on the field has been underwhelming. The left-handed slugger is hitting just .213/.316/.382 across 351 plate appearances. Grisham has 11 home runs and 14 doubles as well.
In 2025, however, Grisham hit a career-best 34 home runs to go along with an .811 OPS. He has earned two Gold Glove awards in his career as well. When Grisham is at his best, he provides serious power from the left side of the plate while also playing respectable defense in center field. He can handle the corner outfield positions if necessary as well.
So, why should the Yankees — who have had a difficult season from an offensive standpoint — move on from Grisham?
Grisham still has trade value. Many teams around the MLB world would love to add a player like him.
He can hit in the middle of most lineups while providing quality defense. The Yankees have other areas of need on the roster, and if they have interest in a player from another contender then Grisham may be included in the trade package.
Additionally, Grisham may benefit from a fresh start. He is just two for his last 38 at the plate as of this story’s writing.

The Yankees have enough outfield depth to consider moving on from Grisham.
Potential Trent Grisham trade suitors if Yankees move him
As mentioned, a number of contenders would surely have interest. One trade that could make sense is with the Cleveland Guardians.
Cleveland is competing for first place in the American League Central standings. However, the Guardians’ offense has been nothing short of putrid. While Grisham is not exactly tearing the cover off the baseball right now, his power would give the team a crucial boost.
The Yankees, meanwhile, need a catcher. Cleveland has Patrick Bailey and Austin Hedges at the big league level right now. Bo Naylor, who is in the minor leagues at the moment, features an intriguing offensive ceiling. Naylor may catch the attention of the Yankees, and including Grisham as part of the deal would surely entice the Guards.
As for other possible suitors, the Milwaukee Brewers could use some more power in the lineup. The Houston Astros may also be a potential landing destination for Grisham.
Regardless of the team, the Yankees should consider trading Grisham. A fresh start would probably be best for him, while a trade could help the Yankees improve other areas of the roster. Making a deal makes sense.
