Trying to finish off a sweep of the Phillies on Sunday, the Yankees are back on the upswing after a rough stretch in late June and early July. The Bronx Bombers have gone 9-3 in their past 12 games and entered Sunday two games behind the Rays for first place in the American League East.
Will Warren (7-4, 4.00 ERA) is set to get the ball for New York and will look to follow strong starts from Cam Schlittler on Friday and Ryan Weathers on Saturday with one of his own on Sunday.
The Phillies will counter with ace Cristopher Sánchez, who started the All-Star Game for the National League earlier this month but enters Sunday’s start having allowed 29 hits over 15 2/3 innings in July.
The Phils closed to within two games of the Braves for first place in the NL East prior to the All-Star break, but they’ve gone 2-6 in the second half. The club’s trio of All-Star position players — Kyle Schwarber (.733 OPS), Bryce Harper (.536 OPS) and Brandon Marsh (.465 OPS) — have all seen their production dip in July.
