Brooks Koepka’s last PGA Tour event shows how long he’s been gone

This week is a massive one for the PGA Tour as they are out at Torrey Pines for the Farmers Insurance Open.

In any given year the Farmers is a big deal given its prestige and location, but this year has an added level of intensity as the tournament marks the return of Brooks Koepka to the PGA Tour following his stint with LIV Golf.

While Brooks has played in major championships throughout his time away from the PGA Tour (he won the 2023 PGA Championship during the span in question) it has obviously been quite a bit since he last played an actual PGA Tour event what with the suspensions and everything that happened over the course of the last few years.

This week will mark Koepka’s first start in a non-major on the PGA Tour since the 2022 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. He tied for fifth in the event, one that no longer exists by the way.

In terms of how long Brooks has been gone from the PGA Tour… consider the following:

  • His last Tour event was won by Scottie Scheffler (of course)
  • That was just 2 weeks before Scottie won The Masters
  • To be clear this is in reference to Scottie’s first Masters win
  • Scheffler has since won at Augusta a second time
  • Scottie has added a PGA Championship of his own
  • He has also added an Open Championship
  • Scheffler is the most recent winner on Tour at the moment after having won the American Express
  • That win was Scheffler’s 20th on the PGA Tour
  • His win when Brooks was in the field at the WGC was just his third

Needless to say a lot has happened on the PGA Tour specifically since Brooks Koepka was last a part of it, and a lot of it has had to do with Scottie Scheffler.

Interestingly the Farmers has not exactly been Brooks’ forte in terms of PGA Tour events. While he holds 5 major championships his best finish ever at the Farmers was T41 in 2015, the lone cut he has made in five starts at the tournament.

Majors have always been Brooks’ thing, but perhaps his newfound love for the PGA Tour will make matters different. For what it’s worth his last non-major win on the PGA Tour was at the 2021 WM Phoenix Open, almost five full years ago.
