Arizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Carson Beck officially has his first NFL action under his belt, and it is safe to say he looked the part. Despite falling 33-30 to the Carolina Panthers in Thursday night’s Hall of Fame Game, Beck put on a show that had fans buzzing.
Following his impressive debut, Beck took to the podium and addressed his new jersey number. After sporting No. 11 during his collegiate career, the rookie is now rocking No. 19 in the pros. Naturally, No. 11 is essentially untouchable in Arizona, thanks to legendary wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who was just announced as part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
When asked about his new digits, Beck simply smiled.
“I don’t know, 19 is kind of growing on me a little bit,” Beck told reporters. “Shoutout Larry Fitz.”

If his preseason debut is any indication, Beck might just make No. 19 special in his own right. Earning the start for Arizona, the 24-year-old signal-caller looked calm, cool, and collected in the pocket. He picked apart the Carolina defense, finishing his night completing an incredibly efficient 15 of his 19 pass attempts for 188 yards and one touchdown.
Beck showed off his processing skills and arm talent throughout his two-plus quarters of action. He consistently found wide receiver Jalen Brooks, connecting on a massive 49-yard deep strike and a 35-yard gain to march the offense down the field. He eventually capped off a clinical 96-yard drive by tossing a perfect five-yard fade to wideout Simi Fehoko in the back of the end zone for a score.
While Jacoby Brissett currently sits as the projected Week 1 starter, Beck certainly made a strong case for himself under the bright lights in Canton. If the rookie continues to spin the rock with this level of accuracy and poise, the Cardinals might have a real quarterback battle on their hands before the regular season kicks off.
